LIT2750 – Book Study on How Children Succeed by Paul Tough
Course Description: How Children Succeed by Paul Tough. This will be an Optional Book Study to include interested LCS teachers. There are eighty available slots and Literacy CEUs for educators interested in credit for a book study related to this topic. All teachers in the book study will document their readings and their implementation of new and improved methods to stimulate student success. They will share this documentation with me (Joanna Perkins) as we go through the book (I will share a Google document with instructions to each teacher in the study). I will post book study questions and teachers will comment on each chapter and reply to at least 2 other comments on the blog as another piece of documentation (www.lcsproflearn.weebly.com/blog). I am planning on going through a chapter every other week unless the group requests a faster pace. I want you to have time to read the chapter, implement new procedures in your classroom and reflect on the implementation prior to moving onto the next chapter. Teachers that complete the program and all documentation will receive one Literacy CEU. Completion is expected by April 30, 2016. If schedules allow, we will meet once or twice to have a discussion on the chapters we have covered so far and our reflections. Study to include no more than 80 teachers and will be on a volunteer basis.
